Longest Married Couple

I spoke with a friend the other night about the "longest married couple dance" and how it's a sweet tradition that many continue at their wedding. Not sure whether Mr. SE and I will do this dance- we haven't really talked about it yet. But after talking to BM Kate, I saw this article on Yahoo and thought it was too cute to share.

"Our hearts melted when we read this piece on Herbert and Zelmyra Fisher of North Bern, N.C., who hold the record for the world's longest marriage. Herbert, 104, and Zelmyra, 101, have enjoyed 86 years of wedded bliss. According to Mashable, Herbert and Zelmyra, married in 1924, enjoy sitting on their front porch and counting cars. As if that weren't adorable enough, the two tweeted love advice to the masses between February 12 and Valentine's Day on their joint Twitter account, the aptly-named @longestmarried." from Yahoo

Did you do the oldest married couples dance at your wedding? If so- who was the couple? At BM Kate's wedding it was her sweet grandparents.

We did this at our wedding and it must not have been the wrong crowd. Everyone looked around confused. I don't think they'd ever heard of it before!

But yes, totally sweet idea. Our longest married couple was only married 38 years (hubs grandparents have been married 65+, but grandpa was too sick to come). Except when it was time for the next-shortest marriage to sit down, everyone looked around confused, especially the longest married couple, who were like, "Can we go sit down yet?"

I would just check this by your mom, aunts, etc. to make sure you have the right crowd! It's so romantic, but it did NOT work out well at ours!

At our wedding it was my grandparents and that had been married 59 years:) So fun and ps... we have the same taste... my flower girl wore the exact same dress:) and the flower girl gave it back to me as a gift to Cate, so that she could wear it some day!!

That is so adorable. We are not doing this dance at our wedding, but only because we're not doing very many 'traditional' or singled out type dances. I still love the idea though.
